How to properly clean your electronic gadgets

Most commonly used electronic gadgets like laptops, phones, and tablets are dust magnets that are contaminated with food particles, germs, and other pathogens. Therefore, it is important to disinfect these devices by cleaning them regularly so that they remain safe to use. Before cleaning a gadget, it is essential to check the manufacturer’s instructions so that the warranty of the electronic gadget is not voided.

Phone and tablet

Prepare a homemade cleanser with equal parts of isopropyl alcohol and water in a spray bottle and spray it on a microfiber cloth to make it damp. Use it to wipe down tablet or phones with tempered glass screen protectors. Use cotton swabs to clean the crevices and edges of these gadgets to make them free of germs and dust. Do not wipe gadgets like iPhone and iPad with hand sanitizers, as they have special self-cleaning oleophobic coatings that can be damaged by alcohol.

Since the laptop is portable, it tends to attract a lot of dust and germs. Use a damp microfiber cloth soaked in cleaning alcohol (given above) and wipe down the keyboard. Turn the laptop over to remove dust and food particles from the keyboard. Clean the screen with a dry cloth and remove stains with eyeglass cleaner.

Clean the screen with a soft cloth moistened with distilled water and use eyeglass cleaner to remove fingerprints from the screen. Wipe the plastic parts of the computer, keyboard, and processor with a damp cloth dampened with an alcohol mixture. Clean the keyboard by shaking it and turning it over so that if there are any food particles, they can come off. Use a cotton swab to clean the keys and the spaces between each key. Do a spot test to verify that alcohol does not remove any lettering from the keys.

Remote controls, mice and game consoles

The mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water can also be used as an all-purpose cleaner for plastic and metal surfaces. You can clean the mouse, all remotes, game console and controllers with a damp cloth dipped in this solution as it kills bacteria, removes dirt and all forms of grease build-up. Do not spray the alcohol solution directly on electronic gadgets.

Since the headphones are delicate gadgets, dip a cotton swab in the alcohol mixture and use it to clean them thoroughly.
